  • Re: Dominion - C. J. Sansom

[quote user="Denise4891"] Well that was the best 20p I've ever spent!  Absolutely loved it.  I found it a lot easier to read than Winter in Madrid - I remember finding the politics in WiM a bit hard going because I wasn't very familiar with the Spanish Civil War.  However, no such problems this time as Sansom ...

  • Re: Titles, Tasters and Temptations - what we're reading in MAY

I've almost finished Legend of a Suicide which has been quite a hard-hitting read.  Very well-written and totally compelling but some of the subject matter is fairly disturbing.  After this one I'm going be travelling from Alaska to Australia as I make a start on Miles McGinty by Tom Gilling, which is on loan from the mobile ...

  • Re: Titles, Tasters and Temptations - what we're reading in MAY

A Man of Means was great - short, light and humorous stories and just what I needed.  Now back to something more serious with my alphabet challenge for this month, Legend of a Suicide by David Vann. Here's what the blurb says: Roy is still young when his father, a failed dentist and hapless fisherman, puts a .44 magnum to his ...

  • Re: Feedback

Well, of course people should leave feedback as soon as they get the book. However, people do forget sometimes, and I've come across one or two members who only seem to leave feedback once they've actually read the book (presumably just in case there's a page missing in the middle!)  If you're waiting for someone to leave you ...

  • Re: A subject close to my heart - please could you sign this petition

I've signed too.  After seeing what you've all been through with Ewan I think this is a cause that's close to all our hearts, Sam.

  • Re: What's Your Book Group Reading?

Last night we had our May meeting, for which the book was Franny and Zooey by J D Salinger.  The consensus of opinion was very much that *how* it was written was admirable, but the *what* left most of us completely cold - far too much obsessive adolescent introspection for a group of 40-50-something women!  Still, it prompted a much ...
