I read this book as the first one of my Translation Challenge books of 2013.
I found this book to be an absolutely astonishing piece of writing.
Absolutely shocking, short and compact but gripping right until the end. The first person narrative worked really well. I haven't read anything as bleak and sparse since 'The Road' ...

I ordered Beside the Sea by Veronique Olmi, from Peirene to read for the translation challenge this month. It arrived today, I am looking forward to it.
