Brightest Star in the Sky - Marian Keynes. **SPOILERS IN 1ST POST**

Did anyone think that the rape story was obvious? I also found it quite a cliched way of handling the subject.

What was the point of Jan and Andrei? They did absolutley nothing for the story.

Why wasn't Jemima used more in the story? She was one of the most interesting of the lot.

Did Fionn annoy anyone else or was it just me?  I wanted to scream at him to get over himself.

Why have Conall be a millionaire? There was no point of it and like he'd be running with that circle of people if he was a millionaire.

Lydia was normal but why have her being so crass all the time? She had potential to be the best one in the story. She was the closest there was to a proper Marian Keynes character but it kept going wrong somehow.

Did anyone see the point of having the ghost/spirit narrator in it? It was superfluous to the story and had nothing at all to do with any of it.

I love Marian Keynes but this one had me thinking more about my numb bum because of the time it took to get through the colossal tome (or so it felt because it was such a long book)  than it did the characters in it. it could have been half the book it was and still tell the exact same story but been fun, sharp and a good story.

I've read a few of Marian Keyes books and quite liked them, so when I saw this in the local bookshop a few weeks ago I thought seriously of buying it but something held me back. Then I read a few luke-warm reviews, so it looks like I had a narrow escape!

I'm pleased I borrowed it from the library and didn't buy it. It won't stop me reading any other books by MK because I have enjoyed every other book by her that I have read. Maybe this one is the dud that all writers have. Looking forward to her next one.

I have loved all of Marian's books but I have to say this was my least favourite of them all.

Not long read this.  Definitely not one of her best.
