You might like to read the earlier thread about this one http://forums.readitswapit.co.uk/forums/p/540/4018.aspx#4018. I love this book, but I'm sorry I can't really see the link with William Trevor...

There is already a review of this book so I've asked one of the Mods to merge this with the original review.  This book is still on my TBR.  Thanks for the review.

Edited to say:  threads now merged.

Mr Grey I don't mind at all if Henry Cavill plays you.

Thanks for posting the link Annie and I'm off to look at William Trevor on Fantastic Fiction as I've never heard of him.

Love and Summer and The Story of Lucy Gault? Think there's review threads on both... still can't see the Kim Edwards comparison though...

I have had this on the shelf for three years..... I keep taking it down and looking at it.  Then I see a post were someone dislikes it and put it back on the shelf.  Shall I make it my challenge for next year?  Its a thought!

It's really strange how a book that you really hated stays with you far longer than one that you really enjoyed.   I'd had this on my wishlist for ages, well before it was released in the UK.  Jodi Picoult recommended it on her website when it was first released in the States and as a fan of hers, I wanted to read it.

It eventually came my way and I was so disappointed.   I hated the fact that the characters were nameless - in fact I hated the characters.  I wasnt interested in the parents and wanted to know more about the child.

I've enjoyed some William Trevor novels but didnt like Love and Summer - another disappointment, and like Annie, cant see the comparison at all.

Me too, although I think it's only 2 years I've had it.  I really ought to get round to it but I also have others I've had longer that I'd like to get round to.  Decisions, decisions....!

To be honest, I think this book's a "marmite" book. I'd give it a go if I were you, just so you can come back and tell us what you think! I didn't hate this book but I didn't particularly like it either. I guess it was just an average read for me.

Re: The Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards

I've just finished this and while I found it a pleasant enough read, it didn't wow me the way some people kept telling me it would.

I hadn't noticed the "coming home after the birth" thing, but I did find it abit odd that they had the funeral so blooming quick without waiting for the son , <<SPOILER IN WHITE. so it doesnt surprise me that there are some other things that people notice as a tad weird!

In the end I took the oportunity to see the film, and passed the book on, unread.  I think I was right to do that, and I feel no sense of loss!
