Where did your books take you in August?

I finished up in San Pedro de Alcantar, near Marbella with Mrs Frampton, but started in England with Never Let Me Go, Germany, London and New York with Soldier in the Wheatfield, Italy, Afganistan and along the silk route into China with The Colour of Heaven, and Barcelona with Gaudi Afternoon - returning to England for The Outcast.   Phew!

Re: Where did your books take you in August?

Started in deepest darkest Glasgow with The Twilight Time and had a long stay in Prague for The Book of Laughter and Forgetting, then off to Germany for The Boy in Striped Pyjamas and then to London (I think) for Corpsing, through both time and space in Cloud Atlas (too many to mention) and then to US for Thank You For Smoking, then to Melbourne (I think) for Addition, before going all across America several in On The Road...

    Cool thread Mrs Mac!

Thanks Alice, but not an original idea, I must admit.  No-one set it up for August, so I thought whilst we had not yet reached September, I'd have a go.Embarrassed

Yay! I've finally read enough books in a month to make doing this worthwhile. Let's see.

First I travelled to a fantasy version of Malaysia in the Victorian period with the Shadow-Hawk, then to 70s Grosse Pointe, Michigan to witness The Virgin Suicides. For the last few months I've been visiting China regularly for the short stories of Shifu, You'll Do Anything For A Laugh, but I left for the final time in August. Closer to home I flew with The Hawk Dancer in the Welsh Marches, but finally I went off to visit Vevey and Rome with Miss Daisy Miller.

Re: Where did your books take you in August?

I spent this month mainly in the UK and America, hopping between the two, with a bit of time travel thrown in for good measure.

I started the month in Edinburgh in Exit Music, and sttayed in Scotland briefly in The Restraint of Beasts before the plot moved to somewhere in England.  I stayed in England with So Many Ways to Begin and  A Spot of Bother.  I crossed to the USA for Replay where I travelled around the country and in time between the 1960s and 1980s.  Then I spent time in various laboratories in the past few centuries in "Elephants on Acid".  I went to Miami with Darkly Dreaming Dexter. I was mainly in the UK in The End of Mr Y, but I also spent time inside some other people''s minds, travelled back in time and across to America again too.  I was in London in recent years with Saturday, then back to the USA for Fup.  At last I visited somewhere outside of the UK or USA in The Shape of Water which is set in Sicily.  But then it is back to the UK, mainly Cambridge and towns around it for Stuart: A Life Backwards, then once more to the USA where I follow Joan Didion's grieving in New York and California in The Year of Magical Thinking.   I continued alternating between the UK and USA within the space of one book with 84 Charing Cross Road where I switch from London to New York every other page.

I'm ending the month in Sweden in The Return of the Dancing Master, and perhaps next month will take me to a few more countries.

I like this story way of listing :)

Started off in and moved onto Gotham City... somewhere I spent a LOT of time this month... quick jaunt to London (where the Joker goes, we follow.) Somewhere fantasy again, then back to reality and England for two books. Back in time to ancient Greece and then a bit of a stretch back to New York. Over to Italy next, back to the future, over to Sunnydale for an extended wait... And hello, Gotham City again. For a good, ooh, 4 books, with a brief stint in Rome. Nazi Germany after that, fantasyland, London, Washington - for the sparkly vampires! Then to wipe away the memory of said vampires, off to Ankh-Morpork and finally, England.

    Yay, passport stamps =D

Re: Where did your books take you in August?

I started the month in NYC with Myron Bolitar in One False Move before crossing the US to Hollwood to spend time with Harry Bosch in The Overlook.  I then spent time jumping all over the world in Jumper.  Next up was a thrill ride around the world - including England, USA and Spain in The Shakespeare Secret then back to dodgy modern day London in The Crime Trade.  Back to LA for The Forgotten then stayed in the USA in the company of vampires in Undead and Unemployed.  Finally I spent time in Tumdrum, Northern Ireland with Israel Armstrong the mobile librarian in Mr Dixon Disappears.

I started in Ireland for a quick stay (Dark Shadows), then travelled to the UK (Esme Lennox), then moved to South of England and stayed there for a while (Pillars of the Earth), then on to Ireland (That they may face the rising sun) but left earlier than intended to move to Andalucia and back to England (Constant Princess)!
