Front row of Mrs Mac's TBRs
In case you had not caught previous posts on this subject, I usually pull forward about 6 books from my TBR mountain, and try to plough through them.... always thwarted, of course, by chairty shops who always seem to have something I want, or Amazon, ditto, or Postscript, ditto etc etc !!!
Anyway, here we go again, let's see how many of these I can clear in August!
Sandy Toksvig - Flying under Bridges
Philip Hook - The Soldier in the Wheatfield
Louise Arnold - The Invisible Friend
James Runcie - The Colour of Heaven
Hester Brown - The Little Lady Agency
Barbara Wilson - Gaudi Afternoon
I had these all ready to go, then on Saturday went out for afternoon tea to a lovely teashop in a village in the middle of nowhere that has a bookcase full of second hand books ..... and found a non-fiction treasure Annie Hawes - Extra Virgin. I even have the bookmark in it ready to go, and then remembered that I was going to read Kazuo Ishigo - Never let me go. So, dilemma!
HELP! which shall I read first?
Extra Virgin or Never Let me Go.

Re: Front row of Mrs Mac's TBRs
Can't help with the two you've highlighted as I haven't read either of them (though Never Let Me Go is languishing on my TBR).
Of the others I can recommend The Soldier in the Wheatfield, great story though it is a bit heavy going at times, and Barbara Wilson's Gaudi Afternoon is a gem. Quite honestly, who is what in it is in constant doubt, but you can just feel Barcelona. I loved it - and it's short!

Re: Front row of Mrs Mac's TBRs
No doubt you've made your choice on this now but just wanted to say Extra Virgin is really good IMO, one of my keepers, and I have the two that follow which are yours when I see you next.
I also have another of hers about Morroco but you might have to wait until I've got round to reading that one!!!
Smile, you'll feel better!

janetandjohn:
Sandy Toksvig - Flying under Bridges Gave up as I didn't care what happened to anyone in this book.
Philip Hook - The Soldier in the Wheatfield Decent thriller with a nice little twist at the end.
Louise Arnold - The Invisible Friend
James Runcie - The Colour of Heaven
Hester Brown - The Little Lady Agency
Barbara Wilson - Gaudi Afternoon
I had these all ready to go, then on Saturday went out for afternoon tea to a lovely teashop in a village in the middle of nowhere that has a bookcase full of second hand books ..... and found a non-fiction treasure Annie Hawes - Extra Virgin. HELP! which shall I read first?
Extra Virgin Gave this away to a Italiaphile who saw it on my book pile, so you can see why I only have a "front row" of TBRs....I can't even get that right, and about the other 85?
or Never Let me Go think this will be next after Soldier in the Wheatfield.

Re: Front row of Mrs Mac's TBR Last edit forAugust (27th).
janetandjohn:
Kazuo Ishigo - Never let me go. This I read in 24 hours. Like/dislike? It will stay with me. (Reviewed in reviews).
Sandy Toksvig - Flying under Bridges Gave up as I didn't care what happened to anyone in this book.
Philip Hook - The Soldier in the Wheatfield Decent thriller with a nice little twist at the end.
Louise Arnold - The Invisible Friend Nice read for under twelves... My wee friend will love it!
James Runcie - The Colour of Heaven A love story of a sort, about a shortsighted man whose job is to find Lapiz Lazuli (for the colour of the sky in a painting on plaster in a church in Siena....actual painting still there 700 years later!). For this he must travel to the mountains of what is now Afganistan.
Hester Brown - The Little Lady Agency Gone to Sarah5. This was a light and frothy read, something I don't usually go for, but it made me smile, and with the weather lately, that's a bonus. Only one to go now!(19 Aug).
Barbara Wilson - Gaudi Afternoon Tolly18 had said this was an amusing little tale. Not wrong! The heroine of the book is not the first l.esbian detective I have come across.... and the author knows Barcelona really well, so her heroine dodging around the city trying to sold a very convoluted mystery was fun to read. Passing it on to a friend who will enjoy it now.
Goodness, this is a good month, reading wise! Sometimes I just don't get through the list, but with a train journey to London and back this weekend, it looks as though I will get the last 2 done (and back on swaps) and maybe fit in another one or two. Yay!
Yay! what a month, bookwise. I have managed all on my list for August (one I didn't finish, but at least I started!), and am half way through The Outcast as an extra! Patting me on the back because maybe I will read every book on my TBR before I die?!

Thanks you! will take the offer, as the friend who has the book will get it back to me at some time, and then he can read the other 2.
