Gerd is meeting one of my fave authors tomorrow - top secret cannot tell you who at the mo!  But I am writing a letter to her asking if she would consider coming on here and having a chat - I think she would be very well received - does anybody have a draft of a letter or anything that I can crib the details for.  

She is doing some filming work at the fort - I am getting her to sign one of my books and had hoped to go and meet her myself - not to be I don't think but  .......

I would first of all like to thank you for taking the time to read this short letter.  I will try to be brief and to the point in my request, which is made on behalf of a book group/online forum for book lovers.

We have come together as part of a book swap/exchange site and as part of our overall  general interest we have discussed books we have read, offer reviews and chat in general about the books.  It will be no surprise that your books are often featured and lead us in many different directions for our chats and different opinions are able to evolve.

There has always been considerable interest in your books from members and as such I was wondering if you would agreed to come online at a pre-arranged time to have an online chat with members.  We have recently had chats with Tess Gerritson, Mark Billingham, R J Ellory and Dave Roberts.

Sorry I don't think I can help with the letter. Congratulations though and good for you on the book signed and stuff.

How kind of you for thinking of everyone one on here, however I must say I am more than a little intrigued now.

  Thanks for replying will post my letter on here in a minute and get up early to see if anybody can help/add anything.  I need to know how she contacts us on here.  I will give her my e.mail address and the site details.  Fingers crossed.  I would be so happy if she came on here and did a chat.

Hi Lisa, I don't think anyone did a standard letter or anything like that for previous author chats as they just e mailed the author and asked if they would be interested in doing an author chat on RiSi - the author would have to join up and post in the author chat section, on a thread which you would start on the day or if people wanted to post questions in advance, this could be done on the same thread.  Most authors are quite keen to get involved in author chats online, it's only an hour of their time and it gives them a chance to chat to their fans, as well as promoting future books!!  Can't wait to see who it is...

Have had a read through your letter and there is absloutley nothing wrong with it. I think what you've written is fine, all the relevant details about RiSi and what your request is in there and is written in a very polite manner. I think that the letter is fine to send as it is and can;t think of anything else to add.

Oooops - numpty moment there - just edited my post cos I had a bit of difficulty working out how you would have known Annie!  Gerd is sworn to secrecy but this time tomorrow it will all be over and I can tell all the peeps.  I though if he can pass letter to her when he actually meets her - he will be having some real time with her not just a fleeting hello and he only mentioned it CASUALLY IN PASSING !!!!!

Sorry to anybody if I have stepped on toes here - just thought the opportunity was too good too miss.  

I would really feel I'd made a contribution to the site if she agreed to come and chat :-)  I'll let you know, but with a new book coming out she might be happy to come on and try to promote it.

You've got us all guessing like mad now, Lisa!  I hope s/he does agree to come and do a chat. 

Just so you know, we have a user ID set up specially for authors to use on chats - you just need to give them the user name and password, and tell them where to find the thread.  It saves them going to all the trouble of registering etc just for the sake of an hour's chat.  Also, if you remind me, I will find a pic of him/her to use as their avatar for the duration of the chat.

Right - Gerd met her only briefly in an introduction but spoke to production crew who passed the letter on to

Fingers crossed that some thing will come of it - but if not there is a new series with her in it and she is due back to do more filming work there again in the next few weeks :-)  

Really am hoping that we do get a positive response from this!
