I've just started The Colour ofMagic today. I wasn't sure about it at first as I've heard it's not as good as the others. I found the prologue a bit strange as I'm not used to this type of book, but I'm really enjoying it now and am looking to swap for a copy of the second one.

    Cheers Tina.

I always wondered about Terry Pratchett but as he had so many books out I didn't know where to start.

I saw the Hogfather on Sky TV over Xmas 2006 and that was brilliant. I hear Sky are just about to show their version of 'The Light Fantastic' too.

I think it's time to get into Terry Pratchett.

If you aren't in any rush watch my list for this as The Colour of Magic was one of my first swaps so I should be getting round to it soon and I have the next 3 books and Thud too so if I don't get into them I may well put them all on together.  Got to admit it was watching The Hogfather on sky the Christmas before last that made me wonder what his books were like as I've never read any either.  I'm pretty open minded though and will try lots of things, although since I joined this site I do tend to give up on a book easier as it allows me to try other authors without worrying about the expense.

Thanks for that Wendy, but "The Colour of Magic" ended with a bit of a cliffhanger so I really want to get "The Light Fantastic" asap. I'm trying my luck with swaps and if not my Aunty has them all, I think, but I don't see her that often. But thanks anyway. Smile

I have never read any of his books but did watch the Hogfather the other christmas and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Will probably watch the light fantastic over easter also. Was thinking the other week that I should give him a try but I am not really one for fantasy!!!

I watched Hogfather too.  DEATH WAS ALWAYS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE CHARACTERS (for those who haven't read the books, Death always speaks in capitals).  I collected the books up to a point, then eventually sold them all on ebay!

    Re: Terry Pratchett

One of my most favourite authors, I'm a huge fan of his writing style, in particular the Discworld novels but have also read The Bromeliad (Truckers, Diggers and Wings) which were also cleverly written.

I've also enjoyed the adaptions of Hogfather and The Colour of Magic/Light Fantastic. I hope one day a film will be made of one of the Guards stories. Would love to see Carrot Ironfoundersson acted - wonder who could play him.

Favourite characters in Discworld are Detritus, Gaspode (woof! bark!), Greebo, DEATH, Nanny Ogg and Lord Vetinari.

I like the way in many of Terry's books he can take a situation in real life and "fantatsise"/plagiarise it - make what is in the an analogy of real life, and like to try to spot some of the jokes as references to real life.

Saddened to hear he's suffering from Alzheimers and possibly won't be able to write for much longer, I hope things won't get too tough for him as he's given a lot of enjoyment to a lot of people with his writing.

I've just listed the first book "The Colour of Magic" for swap. I don't know why I was in a such a rush to get "The Light Fantastic" as I still haven't read it! I will read it soon.
