    Book Circle 2012/13 preliminary stages.

It's that time of year again Forum members, the 2011/12 Book Circle is set to end in August and that means we have three more books each to read.  It's time to think about whether or not you want to join again this year or if you're not currently a member of the Book Circles whether you might want to join.  The Book Circles for 2012/13 will be due to start in September.

For anyone thinking about joining for the first time here is the list of guidelines for the Book Circle.

If anyone has any suggestions regarding the Book Circles please feel free to post them on this thread.

    1.  A thought that I've had is when choosing your book please make sure that it's not one of a series unless you intend sending round the first one of the series, as there's nothing more annoying than a book turning up that's part of a series and you might not have read previous ones in that series so you miss some of the background to the series.

    2.  Another book circler from this year sent me a suggestion that the books going round in the Book Circle should be all the same genre, rather than random book genres as they'd not enjoyed some of the books this year that they'd been sent.

Please feel free to add any other suggestions so that they may also be considered if you've got any.  Please do not be offended if the suggestions that you make are not implemented.

    Thanks

    Bernie Smile

     Me too.

Not all the same genre for me - variety is the spice of RISI!

Count me in again. I like a variety as it incourages me to read something I wouldn't normally. There has been a few that I have not liked but some goodies too!

I love the beginning of the month, it is like christmas :q33:

Variety is the spice of life as they say or RiSi as Mrs Mac says Wink.

Personally this will be my fourth year in the Book Circles and in the last three years out of all the books read there has only been one that I've not finished and one that I didn't even star,t so I don't think that's too bad out of at least 36 books.  Yes there have been some I've not liked as much as others but that's par for the course in any book that you might randomly pick up and I've also discovered some new Authors that I've gone on to read other books by that I might never have done had it not been for the Book Circles.

Yep, I'm in again, and agree, wouldn't want them to be all the same genre!  The whole point of the circles for me is that it challenges me to read outside of my comfort zone!  Like others there have been some I wasn't keen on, but I've also found some absolute gems, and many of them I wouldn't have tried without the push of it being a circle book!!  My current one is a perfect example of this, I'd never in a million years given it a go on my own, I doubt I'd have even got as far as the blurb, and if I had, I would've dismissed it, but I gave it a bash, and LOVED it!!

I also agree about no series books, unless it's the first, I've had a couple, and had to miss them out!  And I know some people say that some series books can be read as stand alone, but I am such a pedant when it comes to these things, I HAVE to read series in order!!

Ooh excited, am off to have a nosy at my books, see what can be my contribution!!

I think I will bow out this year, though I have really enjoyed taking part in previous years.

I would like to be involved again, and think it may have been a comment I made earlier in the year which lead to the suggestion of sticking to once genre, I'm sorry if I was misunderstood as I really enjoy reading a variety of genres through the book circle and wouldn't want to change this. The only thing I would like to suggest is that people try to send one of their top reads and that they try to suggest something which hasn't featured in the Richard and Judy lists, other top tens so that it's likely that it reduces the likelihood of other people having read it.

    Hi

I would like to take part again please. I agree that books should be random as I have read and loved books that I would not normally have looked twice at. If the books were all the same genre there is always the chance that some people will not like that genre picked and be stuck every month with a book they didn't want to read. I also don't like reading books in a series out of order so also agree on that one too! In the two years I have taken part in the book circle I think there has only been one book I disliked to much that I couldn't read it and I love getting a random book through the door every month.

I would love to join too if there is room left. Can someone please explain to me how the book circle works? I would feel very embarrassed choosing a book, what if everyone has already read it?
