Re: Risi Reading Group 2012 The Timetable

It was my first time this year and I chose 5 books off my TBR mountain.  I tried to choose 5 that I thought would appeal to people.  The books that I chose were mostly books that would interest the ladies rather than the men but we don't really have any men that take part in the Reading Group.  Four of the books were by Authors that I've read and enjoyed in the past, so to me this was a win win situation.

I chose books that had different amounts of pages in them and the rough guideline is around the 400 page mark but I know that some of the books that we've read in the past have been more than this too.

Hope this helps and happy selecting.  Smile xx

I went with ones off my TBR that I thought would make for good discussions!  I've done it twice now, (I think, might have only been once! Huh?) Loved it, and usually started planning about 3 months ahead, lol!

This is probably the best method.  The discussions can fall a bit flat if all members can say is "I liked it" so books which have more content to them are better so that it sparks a discussion.

Choosing from your own TBR or books that you have read and enjoyed before also makes sense because the person providing the selection will be starting off the discussion and so will need to read the book (or at least give it a good go) in order to have something solid to say.

Re: Risi Reading Group 2012 The Timetable

I can think of lots of books I have read previously that could provoke great discussions; but I really want to read something new (to me) rather than re-read - the problem being that I don't know until I've read it how discussive (not sure that's a word Wink it might be.  On the other hand, I have a month until listing my poll, so - I've only just thought of this solution - maybe if I make it my personal challenge to read my provisional selections before adding the poll, then I will have read them recently enough not to need to re-read, and can eliminate any I don't think 'discussive' enough.  Yes, I think this is my plan!  I will probably end up with a mix of good titles I've read previously & freshly read from my tbr, when my list finally comes up. Smile  (P.S. Thanks for the input!)
