I was like that too, not sure what to think.  I think, I mean obviously I'm not saying I'm right, that the story just opened debate about faith and we, the readers, believe what we want, whether that is that Faith had an imaginary friend, or that she did see someone, or that her mum had something to do with it.  I think Jodie was just saying, what if this DID happen, could it?  Has it?

The thing with the orange shampoo puzzled me...because Faith's mum used orange scented shampoo(or was it lemons? - fruity anyway!) and Faith said to someone that her God smelt of oranges, so I was puzzling out the question, was it her mum that she wanted to be god, was her mum doing these things (though I don't think she was), is God who or what we want it/him/her to be and do we ourselves just project the image that best gives us comfort and that's our faith, our God?  Which is kind of what the Tv person was doing, trying to prove that people see or believe what they want, even if it can be and is proved to be fake.  But at the end of the day as long as one is comforted and does no harm, does it matter?

Well, that's sort of what I got from it, which has probably confused you more, so sorry!Big Smile

I love Jodi Picoult her books are so well written aboiut such taboo topics. I read Keeping Faith first and loved it, I found the little girls innocence towards 'her god' touching and how she wanted to take the troubles of it away from her mum by running away. I also liked the tv presenters change of heart after seeing his brother.

Nineteen minutes is by far my favourite and I think that she dealt with the subject brilliantly especially with shootings which were happening in America at the time.

    Just my opinion Smile
