Re: USEFUL BOOK & BOOK RECOMMENDATION SITES

I recently read a post about a booksite that had the word green in it.  I never wrote it down, so is there anyone out there that knows what the hell I'm talking about?!?!?

Do you mean Green Metropolis, Mrs Mac? I've never really used the site myself, but a lot of people on here do, so I'm sure you'll get more answers.

Yes, I think you mean Green Metropolis.  I've only ever bought from there - usually £3.75 per book incl P&P.  I've never sold through them, so don't know what they're like for that, but I can recommend them for buying if you can't get hold of the book anywhere else.  They tend not to have anything far off the beaten track though, if you know what I mean!

    Here's the link: http://www.greenmetropolis.com/index2.asp

It's not the most intuitive site, I don't think - to search for a book, use the Find a Book tab at top right.

I'm sure it will be on here somewhere, and in fact I think I was pointed towards it from someone on here and I visit it everyday. Very friendly and honest reviews of books and much more.

    Re: Anyone tried this booksite??

www.psbooks.co.uk - I get their catalogue, but as the website says 3,000+ titles, might be worth a try.  They seem to deal with end of lines etc., and do have special offers on top of the reductions, but not much fiction I think. Just been on and currently they have about 130 fiction titles from 1.99 upwards.  No pics though.  However, worth a try?

I've yet to order anything from this website, but I found it one day on the internet. It allows you to search for used and out of print books, although it has plenty which still are in print. You can define your search by which websites you want to look at, and by currency, so it's really useful if you want to find a book and don't know if it's available in this country. A lot of the websites which it comes up with have books sold by independent bookshops through that website, but nearly all of them describe the quality of the book. You can also save your results as a "memo" for a later date.

A while ago I came across a site that had authors listing their favourite books and reccomendations. Has anyone else been across this one and remember the address? I've been trying to relocate it for ages.

    Thanks!

I don't know if this is the one you're thinking of, but there is a function like that on fantasticfiction.co.uk.  As an example have a look at this page for Andrew Taylor: http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/t/andrew-taylor/

Re: USEFUL BOOK & BOOK RECOMMENDATION SITES

If you don’t mind reading books on the computer or a handheld device, I have found several sources of free e-books.

Adobe Digital Editions is a free downloadable reader.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/
once you have this software you can import any pdf books you already have.

There are free books available from their library.  However, make sure the book doesn't state 'sample' or you only get part of the book free.

Other classic titles in adobe format can be found from planet book

The publisher, BAEN, offers quite a few sci-fi fantasy e-books free.  They are in a variety of formats including html.

Other free books, including references books are available from Fictionwise. [multi-format]

Very large collection of much older books where the copyright has expired. There are mostly in text or html format mostly.
