A very eclectic list, I can't believe I haven't looked at your TBRs before Sam!

    sam1978:

Nineteen Minutes, The Pact, My Sister's Keeper        not a huge JP fan, these were OK

Wives and Daughters - Elizabeth Gaskell        absolutely loved this one!

The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder       loved this one too

Tess of the D'Urbervilles - Thomas Hardy      not my favourite Hardy but still excellent

Cold Comfort Farm - Stella Gibbons         loved this one, they're crazy nutters!

The Land of Spices - Kate O'Brien        TBR

The Gormonghast Trilogy - Mervyn Peak      I failed to finish the first in the series, didn't like the writing at all Sad

I Capture the Castle - Dodie Smith        TBR

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day - Winifred Watson      wonderful, silly, moving - a treat

Wise Children - Angela Carter             just found this today in a charity shop!

The Turn of the Screw - Henry James        clever, disturbing, very satisfying read

Dracula - Bram Stoker           the original and the best, I found it very scary

Her Fearful Symmetry - Audrey Niffenegger        bit of a marmite book this one, I loved the first two-thirds, hated the last third!

Rebecca - Daphne Du Maurier       I don't get why this is so well-loved, it was just average for me Sad

Parnassus on Wheels       wonderful, simple, heartwarming story

The Haunted Bookshop     by Christopher Morley       TBR

Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell - Susanna Clarke       TBR

Mr Toppitt - Charles Elton         OK, it didn't quite work for me

The Shining - Stephen King       terrifying, brilliant storytelling

Betty Blue - Philippe Dijan         I'd forgotten all about this one!  Gorgeous, passionate and very sad

We've Always Lived at the Castle - Shirley Jackson       TBR

Blue Eyed Boy - Joanne Harris           didn't work for me, the style of writing is quite hard going

Rapture - Liz Jensen        didn't get past the first 50 pages of this one!

The Mesmerist - Barbara Ewing        Terrific, I really loved this one!
