getting mould out of material
hi its rita
ive got a tip about getting mould out of material, many of you will probably know this solution but i thought i would share it with you .
someone either paul ali or myself had left some of chloes bibs wet with milk on in her laundry basket,,forgot about them and went away for a couple of days when we came back i just bunged all her washing including these bibs in the washer and when i was sorting washing out to hang it up i noticed there was mould on, i was going to throw them away dave mentioned about putting them in bleach, i wouldnt do that as they had plastic backs and the colour would fade, someone told me to use milton, i soaked them for 2 hours and it worked a treat, and they kept their colour and plastic back was in tacrt,
so now if anything at all geytas mould on im using milton

I use sterilising tablets to clean in the kitchen and to give the animals bowls a good clean cos I cannot use bleach. They are an essential in my house and they are regularly used to clean my white china mugs cos Gerd insists on drinking flipping tea out of them!

I'll keep this in mind-thanks Rita. Just wish someone could come up with a tip for removing tomatoe puree stains-you can guarantee that pasta suaces will always be dribbled on white t shirts in this house!

Thanks for the mould tip, Rita. I can see that being useful when the kids leave home and start doing their own washing .

I find the Oxi Action in-wash bleach powder (either for whites or coloureds, depending on your wash) is very good at this, especially if you dry the clothes in bright sunlight afterwards.

I used to use the spray-on Vanish stuff, but find the in-wash stuff infinitely better.
Now can someone tell me how to restore the colour to my blue tablecloth that my husband kindly bleached by dropping lemon juice all over it?
Tricky one - how about dripping more lemon juice over it in a pattern?

Elaine, for tomato stains the answer is sunlight. Obviously the weather needs to be sunny but put the item out on the washing line and leave it there for a day or too in good sunlight and it will "bleach" the tomato stain out. Also works on plastic tubs etc that you've had tomato based food in and that have got stained, and I think you can do it through glass ie hanging an item in a sunny window for a while.
Good luck!
Smile, you'll feel better!

a favourite tip of mine which works, (just ask my sister) if you get biro marks on a leather suite spray with hairspay and dab with a clean piece of white cotton cloth. test an area first. But it happened here on my navey suite and it worked . Then my sister raang sobbing one day much later as 1 of her kids covered her cream suite with biro. She later confirmed after hours of gentle dabbing the suite was as new. Needless to say both kids blamed each other but they were very young at the time.

hi its rita
elaine when my son used to be a chef i had te lovely task i dont think so of cleaning his chef whites, and as you can imagine he got some rather grotty stuff on them, curry, tomatoe purree etc even fish guts, i rang a local laundry up and they told me to use daz washing powder to wash them in i used to soak them for hours in bleach its funny they did not fall apart but maybe the milton or stores own brand(i used wilkinsons-its cheaper) will work on that too, vanish soap is good to as i use it on chloes vests if she gets p**o on

This also works for banana stains
