Apologies if this has been suggested before but how about a listmania thing as Amazon have? Purely selfish of course as I am looking for recommendations in post apocolyptic novels eg down to a sunless sea, on the beach, planet of the apes etc plus autobiographies
We tend to kind of do this by accident when someone asks a question! Here's the earlier thread on post-apocalyptic fiction which'll hopefully give you some leads - http://forums.readitswapit.co.uk/forums/p/19239/212861.aspx#212861 Must say that Down to A Sunless sea is one I very much like the look of too...
P.S. And welcome to the RISI forums!
"Sunless Sea" is a very old keeper for us(it's actually one of Brian's favourites, and he does re-read it occasionally), but will happily lend it to you Annie?
I would love a forum for lists, like the book series one but the series would be made up by us.

I suppose one of the great post-apocalyptic novels would be 'The Road' by Cormac McCarty - he's had a big resurgence since No Country for Old Men won the Oscar. For my tastes its got to be 'World War Z: an Oral History of the Zombie War' by Max Brooks - absolutely fab. Abaddon books are also currently publishing a whole host of this kind of stuff and I can't praise 'A Canticle for Liebowitz' highl enough - but don't bother with the sequel.
There's no reason at all why people can't start their own Listmania lists in the Book Chat section. If you give the thread a generic sort of name (eg Top 10 Mills & Boon ), then other people can add their own top 10 M&B lists to the thread. And if it proves really popular and we end up with a lot of lists, we can easily create a separate section of the forum for them.
Splendid, Penny. Let's get on with it!
Well, don't wait for me to start - I'm not good at whittling down my choices! I'm still trying to work out what I'd have in my crypt luggage .

I know. I put mine in but I'm still swithering!
thanks for all the responses everyone. excellent idea on creating a forum. I have read the Road. very good. half way through Plague Year right now which is proving to be excellent. Just finished the Taking which is ok but not my sort of thing. I have the Stand but its huge! Save it for holiday I guess. Thanks for recomendations. will see if I can get them now!
