Re: I've just finished my first Jodi Picoult book....
I just read the pact and it's my most favorite of her's that I've read so far! All of them that I've read are good and well worth reading. I'm trying to read Mercy at the minute but finding it difficult to get into although I'm finding it difficult to get into any books right now.
My second favorite by JP is Perfect Match.

Re: I've just finished my first Jodi Picoult book....
I've enjoyed every one I've read, although Vanishing Acts is my least favourite I think. Harvesting The Heart, Songs of The Humpback Whale, Second Glance, Mercy and Picture Perfect are quite different to her usual legal dramas and her new one Change of Heart is a mixture really. Her earlier ones are my favourites, but Plain Truth is really good.-

I'm reading Keeping Faith at the moment, which is a really different book which I can't put down. Have about 40 pages to go. I love her books and still have several to read on my shelves. I must admit some are hard to get into but are worth persevering with.

Re: I've just finished my first Jodi Picoult book....
kaydee23:..and am kicking myself for not reading any of hers before! I've just finished The Pact which I've had in my cupboard for probably a couple of years or more and for some reason never picked it out for reading until I kept seeing her being mentioned here and thought I'd give it a go. I don't know why but I think I probably had the impression that her books were a bit like Alice Seebold's (a bit depressing - I think) .....I was so wrong! I've also got My Sister's Keeper to read and shall now be working my way through her other books. Are there any of her books that anyone really wouldn't recommend? LOL, I felt exactly the same when I read The Pact last year - I was thinking "Why on earth have I not read anything by her before??". I still haven't got round to reading a second one but I do have My Sister's keeper, Vanishing Acts and Mercy on my TBR so must get stuck into one of them soon!

I have never read any of Jodi Picoults books for that very same reason. Whenever I have read the back of the book the subject always seems to be a bit glum. Are they a bit depressing?

I didn't find The Pact depressing in any way - although the subject matter is never an easy one, it was so well written and for me she really made the characters come alive. I haven't yet read any of her other books but from the comments that others have made I would think that they are just as good. I would certainly recommend that you give her a try.

Re: I've just finished my first Jodi Picoult book....
Hi Kel/Kaydee, just to say Jodi has now converted herself into my fave author. She is coming to Glasgow in 2 weeks to chat about her new book and I can't wait. Some of her books have very serious moral issues. I loved The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, although usually anything that can disturb, i won't read, as I get bad nightmares, I am too susceptible I guess. Anyway, Jodi's are different. They can be sad, but not depressing at all, rather thought-provoking. Of course it depends what you normally read. If you wanna read chick lit then it's not that, but if you want something which you will be able to remember a year from now, what the book was about, Jodi Picoult is an author to look at. Just for someone else to try, Jodi P has said her fave author is Alice Hoffman. I bought The Ice Queen by her the other day, when I was in Texas and her stuff looks good too. I personally am fed up with reading chick lit and similar. It's too obvious, you know what's going to happen. This stuff grips you. Sooz x

I always find it interesting how everyone has different ones as favourites of hers. My faves are Plain Truth, Vanishing Acts and Tenth Circle, wasn't so keen on The Pact and Keeping Faith though.
