Re: CHAT WITH TESS GERRITSEN
Would you encourage your children to go into this profession or let them choose what sort of work they want?
Would you encourage more children to read books like yours if they were interested in Antony Horowitz or JK Rowling type books?

Re: CHAT WITH TESS GERRITSEN
tessg:While I don't think medical training makes one's writing "better," it has certainly made my writing more authentic. I've read a number of forensics thrillers written by non-physicians where the medicine is flat-out wrong. I mean, utterly, laughably, wrong. The average lay person won't know the difference, but for anyone who's familiar with medicine, it destroys the author's credibility entirely. I think that's why so many of my readers seem to be people in the medical fields -- doctors, nurses, technologists-- because they like seeing their jobs portrayed in a believable light.
That is more what I was trying to say....I'm in the medical 'field' myself - I'm an embryologist- and know I can happily engross myself in your writing without any jarring mistakes or too much 'showing off' jargon. I particularly like Maura as a 'human' female scientist.
Do you watch any medical/forensic TV shows?

would encourage my children to go into whatever profession makes them
feel passionate -- writing or otherwise. As it's turned out,
neither of my sons wants to be a writer, so I never had to give them
any advice about it!

Helen Helen, I don't watch any medical/forensic TV series -- but I do love science and medical documentaries!

Re: CHAT WITH TESS GERRITSEN
I think it was a great chat too. I'm suffering with a fluey virus & feel rough but it has made my night! I've never been into crime/thriller novels but her books sound really interesting. I think I'll look out for some.

Re: CHAT WITH TESS GERRITSEN
Fi, I'm really so sorry I was late home, too late to join in with this - thank you so much for organising it, and what a lovely lady she seems from her answers.
