    No Wishlist

What's the best thing to do if another swapper has a book you want, but they have no books you have on their Wishlist? I've been PMing them to say that i'm interested, because i don't want them to feel guilty if i ask them to swap and they decline.

What would you do if somebody had a book you wanted, but they had no books on their Wishlist that you have?

    • Buy a book that they want and offer it to swap (0%)
    • Send them a PM telling them that you're interested and hope they find a book they want from your list (0%)
    • Apply to swap anyway (91.7%)
    • Forget about the book and find another swapper to swap with (4.2%)
    • Other (please post other solutions below) (4.2%)

Hi there, I've opted for other, would apply to swap and also post your list of books TBR in Mount TBR section in Books section here and ask them to have a look and see if there's anything there that they're interested in.  It's certainly worked for myself and others in the past.  Hope this helps. You should just apply to swap. You might have something they fancy anyway or something they've never heard of but would love. Good luck! Smile

Thanks lovelytreez and firepoppy - that's what i was thinking of doing, but wasn't sure if it would be considered a bit unusual (though somebody has done it to me). Would it lower my status in any way to be refused a swap or to refuse a swap, or is it only logged how many you swap or request?

    Re: No Wishlist

Hi, the wishlist facility is a fairly new addition to the site, so prior to that, we all just used to request swaps not knowing if any of our books were on the other person's wish list.  In fact, many swappers dont even have a wish list.

No, your status will not be lowered in the slightest.  I've requested and turned down loads of swaps in the past, I've done over 500 swaps.

Just request a swap - the other person  may find something on your list that they fancy.

    Good Luck

    Re: No Wishlist

I mainly look for books that are on my wishlist.  If someone requests a swap from my books, and they haven't got any I like, I just pass on the swap.  I don't tend to take books, just for the sake of a swap.

Currently reading: - Oscar Wilde and The Ring of Death - Gyles Brandreth

    Re: No Wishlist

99 times out of 100 I accept a request by swapping for a book NOT on my wishlist, and I would imagine most people are the same.  So I would always put in a swap request whatever as you've absolutely nothing to lose, and you never know when you'll strike it lucky.  There are lots of books out there that I don't even know I want because, until I see them on someone's swap list, I don't realise they exist!!

Likewise - I would definitely put in for a swap regardless.

Me too.  I've accepted lots of swaps like that I've also accepted swaps for books I already have but know that are wanted by others so increasing my chance of getting a swap.

    Re: No Wishlist

Thanks everyone, this has helped me gain the confidence to apply to swap - especially as most of you would swap with me anyway, regardless of my list of books. Will bear this in mind if any of you ever want to swap with me.
