Last night I started Oscar Wilde and the Candlelight Murders by Gyles Brandreth - a really good fun read.
I got this as a trolley jumper from Tesco at the weekend, am really looking forward to reading it! I finished Aberystwyth Mon Amour by Malcolm Pryce at the weekend, loved it, it's very funny and surreal. Have started Last Tango in Aberystwyth last night, great fun.

Saw Gyles Brandreth on R&J the other week talking about this book. Was it any good Penny? It's not something I would usually read but I'm intriguied by it.

I've ordered the Gyles Brandreth, couldn't resist it!
Glad you're enjoying the Aberystwyth books, Tony. I think they're absolutely brilliant!

Finished The Fiction Class - Susan Breen last night - some interesting ideas but a bit of a mish-mash at times. Going to start The Handmaid's Tale later.

They're very funny aren't they?!? I love the way he makes Aberystwyth sound like LA or New York, full of intrigue and dark menace. They're very well written as well, full of very vivid imagery and great metaphors - I'm loving them!

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did Treez, it's a great read. There was a movie made of this too but it's not a patch on the book.

It's been on my TBR pile for yonks, Tony, just found it on the top shelf, hidden by a row of double parked books with an upstairs extension too. I think I'm going to have to resist new temptations and read some the great oldies on my shelves. I think I'll enjoy it too.

Well, I really enjoyed it, but then I've long been fascinated by Wilde, and love books (like Interpretation of Murder, American Boy, Arthur and George) that are fiction based in fact, with real-life characters. I also love Sherlock Holmes so this was also in its favour for me, with Conan Doyle (who apparently did know Wilde quite well) appearing in this book, and Wilde supposedly (for the purposes of the plot!) being something of a model for Sherlock Holmes. Brandreth has clearly done a lot of historical/biographical research for this, and it is littered with real Wilde one-liners, so it is fun - my only criticism really would be that the actual murder-mystery plot is a little too obvious for me (I guessed whodunnit long before the end!) But I will definitely look out for the 2nd in the series which is due out fairly soon, I think.

I've just finished Flying Under Bridges by Sandi Torksvig, I'm about to start Memory Keeper's Daughter when I get some time. This weekend seems to have been completely manic!

Re: Currently reading.... MARCH
I had such a slow month in February - only managing to finish 4 books which is about half of my usual quota or less.
I'm now reading The Glass Books of the dream eaters by GW Dahlquist. I'm fascinated by it and am enjoying it but am almost wishing I'd chosen something shorter and lighter as I reckon its going to take me a while to get through this rather huge tome.
