Hi All,

I think there should also be feedback available for the free book section, as I have just sorted out a free book and there is not any way to acknowledge this member which seems a bit unfair, if not feedback, then how about some sort of star system for them/us....what does everyone else think..... 

I was thinking about this and I suppose there is one way to do it. If the recipient of the book creates a book called "stamps" and agrees to swap it with the free book, it could be treated in the same way as a regular swap. The donor of the free book would then delete the "stamps" book once the swap was complete.

Do you think this would work?

Yeah that sounds pretty cool, wonder if the mods are thinking on this issue, as there must be quite a few books for free ever year and the givers don't get any sort of recognition for it, as they do it through pure kidness......................................................, and to stop our landfills filling up...they should get something a Stamp, star, or something as we are all looking at ways to reycyle now days, i mean great advertising for this site ...a old book can be just as good a read as a new even if it is a bit battered.....lol, i am a nightmare for recycling,

Yeah the only thing with that is you could end up with a bit of difference on the rating in the feedback section because if we have a member on here that get loads and loads of free books, the giver will get feedback but the person getting all the free books will have a big difference between books recieved and feedback given which for there swap books could cause peps to not want to swap with them.....if you get what i mean.....lol

I know what you're both saying, but I have to point out that books offered on here for "free" aren't officially going through the RISI system and so can't be given feedback through the site in the same way.  If there were any problems with free book offers (eg stamps or books not being received) RISI admin will not get involved in trying to sort out any disputes as it is an informal arrangement via the forums only.  So I don't think it would be possible to incorporate the free book offers into the feedback system as you suggest. 

 

I'm sure I remember that the Free Book section was introduced simply as a place to put all of the notifications of forum members who wanted to get rid of books without swapping them.  I appreciate that since then many more members have been using the section in order to reduce the numbers on their swap lists etc.  

As Penny says, transactions through the Free Books section are informal and for forum members only and it is totally up to to the member offering the books how they want recompense.  When I've put free books on I've had stamps from those I don't know well but let them go for totally free to those members I consider as friends and I know that other members have done this too as I have been on the receiving end of both types of offer.

I can see that it would be nice to acknowlege people but surely just a public thank you in the "From Me to You" section is all that is required.

No worries Bumbleboo - we love new suggestions from members it's how the From Me to You section was founded and indeed the Free Books section.  The site is evolving all the time and it's the members ideas that keep it going. Hope you are enjoying the Forum as much as we do.
