How do you tackle your TBR?
I have mine in three locations - so the one that usually gets looked at is the shelf in the dining room... the other two are "out of sight out of mind". If I've just picked up a new book that I've been on the look out for then I read that one next... otherwise I try and mix up the genres each time. I've just signed up at aNobii and have started inputting my TBR books... it lets you sort them in different ways and I'm almost tempted to sort alphabetically and then use that as an order. Just wondered how everyone decided on the order of their TBRs... and how you make sure the oldest ones get read too!

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
Lol well me and my fiance are currently living at his parents house so all of my books are all on shelves in our bedroom, so I tend to just stand there looking for ages and then just pick up lol or I get him to pick up for me I tend to read my swapped books before my brand new books though.

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
Unless I have got a swap arranged for a book waiting to be read, it is really hard deciding what book to read next. At the moment I am choosing thinner books in order to try and get my tbr pile down!

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
I have decided that this year I am going to read my books to fit in with a bookcrossing challenge that I am taking part in. Each month has a theme so I will try to pick books that fit in with that theme.

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
I have two tall bookcases in my study. The TBR books are arranged alphabetically by author but are in two series so small paperbacks are together on 3 shelves and tall paperbacks are together on another three shelves. There is a 7th shelf which is double height and I have books that are part of detective series on there. I try to keep them in series order but it's not always possible as they are stacked two high and double parked. There are also about 10 hardbacks/trade paperbacks which are too tall for the TBR shelves and which are squeezed in amongst the non-fiction books on the other shelves.
As for how to choose what I read next I have recently being giving myself monthly themes and at the beginning of each month I select 5 books which fit the theme and transfer them to my bedroom. January is for new-to-me authors.

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
Mine currently occupy two bookshelves in the living room (two books deep on each shelf), plus a little pile next to my bed. My justification to myself is that once my soon-to-be ex husband moves the rest of his books out, I'll have about 6 empty shelves to fill up, so I think my TBR may grow pretty quickly!
In terms of deciding what to read next, I have recently been trying to get myself organised with a spreadsheet, and reading the ones that have been hanging around the longest, but its quite hard when I suddenly get a new book that I've been wanting to read for ages, so sometimes I just dive into the new one instead! When I'm undecided, I sometimes I also try and see how many copies of a book are on here (i.e. if there are fewer or no copies, I might be more likely to get a swap out of it....).
Not always that organised though!

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
ive a large bookcase in the living room 2 plastic boxes under my bed, and a bookcase shelf over my bed (this ones worrying as hubby put it up) lol,i tend to be terrible and always read the newest ones i have so my older books are being neglected, i also like to vary my books breaking up my beloved chick lit with autobiographies and books by authors ive never read or different genres. I have to admit aswell i go for shorter books as the big ones seem so daunting ive got the last two harry potters to read but they are soooooo chunky lol x
My SwapsTBRwishlistAmanda currently reading little face : sophie hannah next book : january book count= 5 february book count= 2 march book count = 5

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
Um - not very well, it just keeps growing. Books are loosely organised into genres in different rooms. I tried reading the thin books first but then I wonder, whenever will I get around to the fatter ones?
Every now and then I try to be ruthless and 'wild release' a load for BookCrossing or put an extra one in a risi swap. Meant to have a sort out over the hols but never got the chance in reality.
I did find it useful to copy and paste my swaps directly from RiSi into Excel but there's a long way to go to get them all listed.

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
I have three seperate piles. On the bedside cabinet I have between 12-15, which are the next to be read (in no particular order, just whatever appeals when the next book is needed). The next pile is a large basket-about 50-60, also in the bedroom, from which the bedside pile gets replenished. Then in the study, I have the bottom shelves along one wall(8 shelves, doublebanked!)-of "the rest".
So... I always know which are likely to be the next. It's a bit of a crazy system, but it works for me! I periodically move things around, but that's because I like to do so, not through any need.

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
*lol* I went and took a good look at the three shelves (I thought it was just two!) in my study and realised that I have at some point split them into three lots - all filed alphabetically - the top self is must be reads the second is like to reads and the third is not too fussed! Maybe I should mix that top shelf in with the newbies I have on the bookcase in the dining room and just get stuck in! I was interested to read about HP books still on the TBR as they're so thick - I do always plan my reading around the new release of HP... making sure I'm done with whatever current book I'm reading so I can pick the new one up on release day and get stuck straight in *lol* The problem with such high profile books is you always find out who died in the Sun if you're not quick enough!

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
I have a feeling that once you've joined this site you'll never reach the bottom... unless you read a lot of keepers all the books you read at the top of the mountain will be transformed into swaps to add to the pile! Plus ASDAs £3.73 books are just too cheap to pass on! *lol* Long may our TBR mountains rein *grin*

Re: How do you tackle your TBR?
We have two large bookcases in our living room, and my TBR pile occupies the first three shelves of the larger of the two. I also have a few TBRs on another shelf in the bedroom and on my bedside table.
