Tess Gerritsen is very popular. I've also enjoyed the earlier Patricia Cornwall and John Grisham.  Mark Billingham does a good tale as well.

I've just finished one of her books, At The Stroke of Madness, one of the Maggie O'Dell series.  Very good.

I'd also go with the earlier recommendations of Tess Gerritsen and early Patricia Cornwell.  You might also like Kathy Reichs

i have to agree with tess gerritsen and lisa Gardner....just be careful though, as there is a sequence to few of their books, make sure you get them in order....tess gerritsen is the better (in my opinion) and the first of the sequal is the surgeon.....it will have you gripped and you will want to read the lot..... she does have some books out which are not sequals, however, i don't feel they are as good as i feel you get used to the character etc... good luck! let us know if you decide to try any of them and if you would recommend others!

Another one that does not seem to be as popular but I enjoy is Carol O` Connell (Mallory series).

I have recently read a  book by M J Rose called The Halo Effect which was good. Also Tess Gerritsen and a girl at work has recommended Sandra Brown, which I have one on my TBR.

John Grisham, as someone else has mentioned. I was surprised to discover nobody had mentioned James Patterson as he has a wide range of choice and is well worth checking out. I'm sure you will find something of his to tempt you, only be warned, you might get hooked on him if you like thrillers! Smile

What about Michael Connelly - seems like an obvious person for me.

I'm going to give David Baldacci (sp?) a go - just got his latest one from Tesco - see how I get on with that.
