What a great idea.  Five stars to whoever thought of this one.

Can i just remind people that if they request a free book they honour their side of the deal and send the stamps owed. I have had 2 books which i sent and was promised stamps for - however after i sent the book i was unable to get hold of the person to even find out if they recieved the book ok, let alone find out where the stamps are!

Maybe i should have got it weighed first - waited for the stamps and stuck them on their parcel! I dont mean to sound tight but all those £1.52's add up if noone paid.

Thanks though to al the lovelys who always keep to there side of the deal! hehe

I've got a couple of books which are registered via Bookcrossing but would prefer to send these out via Risi. Would it be breaking the rules to ask that the recipient uses the Bookcrossing site and adds a journal entry?

I assume these are books you'd like to swap, in which case that's absolutely fine - there are plenty of bookcrossing-registered books up for swap on here.  However, I know a lot of people don't really want to be bothered with going into the Bookcrossing site to journal them (I'm one of them I'm afraid) and for this reason some people would rather not swap with Bookcrossing books. Some people may also object to the label inside, especially if they want to keep the book, so do always state in your description that it is a bookcrossing book with label etc.

That's a pity as it kinda breaks the book's journey log and you don't have to write much, just the ID number, tick a box and a couple of words, but of course it's your book to do with as you please.  
I agree about mentioning it's got the label, then swappers can make that choice but I can't understand why someone would rip out the label before passing it on.  Not only does the next person get a tattified book, but they might be a BookCrosser or someone who would make a journal entry so the travel log can continue.

I released a book via bookcrossing and when it was next journalled, it had been to Marrakesh and back. I love reading where my released books go to! Unfortunately they don't always get logged again.

I've only ever had one.... I registered on bookcrossing, got a name, and when I released the book in question I was so chuffed....exept that since I let it go in March, there has been no sign of it ever since - boohoo [:'(]

If you offer some books for free and someone says they would like them, is it ok to go and have a look at their books and see if there's one you could swap to save them sending you postage?

 Or is that not how it works?

I don't think there's anything at all wrong with that - in fact, it's ideal if you can sort out a swap.  However, people should bear in mind that the books people list as "free" are often books they feel may be a bit old and battered to swap.

I recently joined BookCrossing but don't like the idea of sticking labels in all my books, so have just written "BookCrossing ID" and then the number on the second page in pencil. I thought this would be suitable when swapping them on RiSi so that if the other person wants to keep the book and doesn't want to swap it on then they can just rub the ID out. Does this sound like a good idea? I know it's not completely what you're meant to do with BookCrossing books, but I'm making a compromise so that the books can be swapped AND BookCrossed.. I do like the idea of logging a books journey, but I don't like the idea of writing in books!

I also completely forgot to update my book descriptions on here and someone just asked for a swap. I put a little note in saying sorry for not mentioning the BookCrossing ID, but that it's in pencil so if they don't want to log its journey then they can just rub it out. The book's condition was Acceptable anyway, so I'm hoping she doesn't mind...
