    I finshed Breathless Encounter by Cindy Dees and really quite liked it.  Now starting the second book (different series) The Dark Side Of Night and it  has started really fast with the action (and attraction).

    Finished 'One Breath Away' by Heather Gudenkauf - really enjoyed this one, gripping thriller as well as a family tale (or several families), all told from the point of view of different characters in many short segments, this makes it a 'hard to put down' book, 9/10 for me;

    Now started 'The Screaming Tree' by Phil Lovesey - billed as a psychological thriller, enjoying it so far, not heard of this author before but got this one a while ago in a charity shop in Mablethorpe, I've also read the details of his other books on Amazon and they all sound as good as this one:-

    High in the autumn canopy, a terrified young boy clung to the tree, mouth opening and closing in silent horror.

    Police psychiatrists know seven-year-old William Dickson was the only witness to a brutal crime, but how and when would his mind give up its terrible secrets?

    Now nineteen, William Dickson is off to college burdened with a problem. It's not that he worries about the people he's killed -- it's more trying to remember how many. Unfortunately, the one person who can tell him wouldn't think twice about killing William himself.

    Worse, he's alive, still screaming, in William's head.

    Just finished: The Orchardist ~ Amanda Coplin
    Now reading: The Lost Boy ~ Camilla Lackberg

    Second 10 in a few books: absolutely loved A Very Private Gentleman (aka The American) by Martin Booth. Thriller material, not a thriller, just a great read.

    Then read a quickie: The Cat Next Door by Marion Babson; gentle mystery where the cat doesn't aim to be a detective. Darker than some of her stories but a good little read.

    Now embarked on one that has been on the list for far too long: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zaphon.

    While I was up in Yorkshire I read The Lifeboat (Charlotte Rogan) which I enjoyed, though I can see why it might leave some people cold, and The Technologists (Matthew Pearl) which I'm afraid did leave me rather cold - the rather far-fetched plot would have been fine if Pearl's writing was a bit less turgid!

    Now I'm reading Foundation, the first volume of Peter Ackroyd's History of England, which covers the period from the very first settlements 15,000 years ago to the death of Henry VII in 1509....!  This is not a quick read by any means as it is absolutely crammed with detail, but it's fascinating as Ackroyd peels back the layers of the English landscape as we know it today to reveal the history underlying our cities, towns and villages, why they're laid out as they are, the origins of their names, and how the interaction between settlements, and between government and citizens, has developed over time.  Terrific stuff.

    I finished The Pure in Heart by Susan Hill last night.  Enjoyable if a bit melancholic.

    At bedtime I started The Killing Place by Tess Gerritsen It's one of her Rizolli and Isles books, I've not read one before but was given this one by a lady at my dance class (I hope she doesn't make a habit of passing books on to me or I'll never get through my TBR!) I'm finding it easy reading and zoomed through about 40 pages at bedtime which is quite unusual for me with a new book.

    After I finished - the unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce - which I loved to bits I picked up and began The sick Rose by Erin Kelly - I was kind of struggling to get into the flow with it so I picked up The Girl you left behind by Jojo Moyes which had just arrived and began reading it and so far I am hooked its superbly written and unputdownable.

    I finished The Shadow of the Wind (Carlos Ruiz Zafon) late last night, mainly because I wanted to get to the end of it. I probably am among the last to read it and frankly I wasn't bowled over. Didn't like the characters, didn't like the style, didn't like the Spain portrayed, just didn't like it. Glad I've read it though and may in time tackle The Angel's Game. Not quite sure where to go next.
