I had to go to our local biggest 2nd book store (5 million books and climbing) this morning in search of a book for a fellow bookmoocher(long story mostly about me or the system not removing a book on another bookswap site called BookMooch.)
I was under strict orders not to buy any more books but.. Ian Sinclair Downriver A Political satire on the 80's that I have been looking for a year for suddenly fell into my hands. As did The last King of Scotland by Giles Foden, The return of the Little Big Man by Thomas Berger(its is sequel to his famous Little Big Man which I tracked down last month, the corrected text for Ulysses(I have been looking out for for this for some time to see if this is now more readable),The Wind-up Bird by Haruki Murakami,Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt( non fiction study of a murder along the lines of In Cold Blood, The Road to Wellville by T.Coraghessan Boyle( comedy/satire on obsessions with healthy living), The Standard Life of A Temporary Pantyhose Salesman( hero sells and wears women's underwear and has adventures with his sidekick on sales trips-Italian richness!), Slow River(cyberpunk sf crossed with death-rebirth mythology), Armadillo by William Boyd and finally The pleasantries of the incredible Nasrudin by Indries Shah(Sufi wisdom jokes/stories)
Overall 11 large paperback books for £16($31.60 or 23.62 euros. But did not find the book I went for and still have to explain why more books when...
